Nepal Flood Relief: Impact Update and What Comes Next

Binaytara Team
On August 26, 2026, catastrophic flooding struck Bhotekoshi, taking more than 1,400 lives. Six thousand people are still missing and thousands more have been displaced, with families in Rasuwa District's Uttargaya Rural Municipality among those hit hardest.
In response, Binaytara immediately wired funds to our team based in Nepal and began mobilizing emergency supplies for affected communities. We asked our own community to donate, and are humbled and gratified by the speed, generosity, and scope of the response. Nepal was in need; the Binaytara community showed up, with support coming in from around the world. This update provides details on Binaytara's use of those donations and their impact.
Relief Delivered
Binaytara extended assistance to an estimated 122 families in Uttargaya Rural Municipality, Wards 4 and 5, with each package sized to support at least four family members. The assistance included essential Nepali kitchen utensils needed to prepare meals: induction stoves and cookers, frying pans, plates, glasses, knives, ladles, spatulas, spoons, cutting boards, aprons, mops, dishwashing mesh, and potable water jugs. These items were distributed on September 16, 2026, at Nilkantha Secondary School in Laharepouwa, under the supervision of local representatives.
We also collaborated with Engage Nepal, led by former U.S. Ambassador to Nepal Scott DeLisi, to ensure our efforts were coordinated. Engage Nepal has been a valued partner of Binaytara for the past two years. We are deeply grateful to Engage Nepal for their partnership, and to Binaytara's global community of supporters.
"This initiative was made possible through your generous support, which continues to bring relief and dignity to disaster-affected communities," said Hari Tiwari, Nepal Country Director at Binaytara. "We sincerely appreciate your commitment and look forward to your continued partnership in future endeavors."

The Long-Term: Our Core Mission
While it was important for us to step up for disaster relief, our core expertise is improving access to cancer care. As this acute crisis moves toward recovery, we want our supporters to know that Binaytara's focus remains on our mission.
Binaytara runs active cervical and breast cancer screening programs, HPV testing, and free health camps in Madhesh, Nepal, alongside ongoing training for volunteer healthcare workers who extend care and cancer health education into underserved communities. We are also in the final stages of preparation to begin construction on a comprehensive cancer hospital in Janakpur, Nepal — a project that will bring access to lifesaving cancer care closer to home for millions of families.
Your support made our Nepal flood response possible. Donations from our supporters is what has sustained our programs in Nepal for the last eight years. From direct care at our clinic, mobile health camps, cancer screenings, HP testing, healthcare worker trainings, and hospital planning that define our commitment to Nepal. We hope you'll stay with us for long-term impact.
Binaytara holds the Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid.org, and a 4-star, 99% rating on Charity Navigator.
