Objectives of the Binaytara Global Health Internship Program

Binaytara’s Global Health and Health Disparities Internship Program is an initiative designed to equip aspiring professionals committed to achieving equity in health for all people. This transformative program combines education and research to address the most pressing health challenges facing communities worldwide. By actively recruiting talented interns from all backgrounds, the program ensures that future leaders reflect the diverse populations they aim to serve.

Through structured mentorship and exposure to healthcare systems in both developed and resource-limited settings, interns will gain hands-on experience and insights into the complexities of health inequities. The program not only addresses global health challenges but also cultivates a diverse talent pipeline capable of leading transformative change in healthcare. By integrating cancer research and community-based approaches, our program delivers the real-world experience needed to transform passion into expertise and advocacy into action.

Global Health Internship Program Details

Binaytara seeks motivated interns working to gain hands-on experience in the nonprofit sector. Interns working will contribute to health disparities initiatives and Continuing Medical Education (CME) program development at our Bellevue, Washington headquarters, while gaining hands-on global health experience at the Binaytara Health Clinic in Janakpur, Nepal.

Job Description

Healthcare Provider Education (50%)

  • Serve as faculty lead for at least 4 conferences annually, managing all aspects from planning to post-event reporting
  • Coordinate faculty communication, registration, vendor support, and on-site logistics
  • Ensure 100% compliance with accreditation requirements
  • Achieve a 70% completion rate for post-conference evaluations
  • Manage conference content publication on the learning management system

Nonprofit Development (50%)

  • Write and submit Independent Medical Education grant proposals for 5+ conferences (20 applications per conference)
  • Support fundraising campaigns, including one gala and two additional initiatives, raising a minimum $1,500 from 20+ donors
  • Write and publish at least one scientific/health education article
  • Create content for newsletters, social media, and blog posts
  • Maintain donor databases and support engagement activities
  • Participate in a 4-week rotation at the Binaytara Health Clinic in Nepal

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students who have just graduated
  • Strong interest in healthcare, the nonprofit sector, and cancer disparities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Available 40 hours per week for 12 months
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Background in health sciences, public health, or nonprofit management preferred

Meet Current Interns

Maeve Doolin (she/her)

Maeve graduated from the University of Washington in 2025 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Environmental Studies, and a minor in Law, Societies, and Justice. Maeve is currently a Global Health and Health Disparities Intern and plans on going to law school.

Through this role, she has been able to witness how global oncology research, continuing medical education, and advocacy for cancer awareness are continuously shaped by laws, policies, and institutional factors. For Maeve, meeting the Binaytara team has been one of the best aspects of her internship experience. She appreciates the supportive network of individuals at Binaytara and is grateful to be learning from friendly and accomplished colleagues, who all have unique experiences, strengths, and ideas to share.

Elizabeth Damitio (she/her)

Elizabeth is a Global Health and Health Disparities Intern and plans to become a pediatrician who works with kids from underserved communities. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a minor in Bioethics. Elizabeth has enjoyed getting to work with a team full of people who share her passion for global health and are committed to making strides in healthcare disparities.

She is looking forward to the trip to Nepal and is excited to be immersed in the beautiful culture, learning more about how cancer health disparities directly impact the livelihoods of so many in Janakpur. During her leisure, Elizabeth enjoys hiking across the Pacific Northwest.

Prity Lata Chakraborty (she/her)

Prity is a Global Health and Health Disparities Intern and plans to become a public health research oncologist specializing in cancer prevention and global cancer control. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Dhaka and a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology from the University of Washington. As part of the internship program, she really enjoys being part of a mission-driven team dedicated to improving access to cancer care.

She said “This internship has given me the opportunity to learn from inspiring mentors and contribute to impactful research initiatives in oncology and public health.” In her free time, Prity enjoys reading, exploring new cuisines, and spending time outdoors.

Selena Nguyen(she/her)

Selena is a Development & Communications Intern at Binaytara. She recently graduated from the University of Washington and majored in International Studies and minored in Public Policy. She is passionate about helping underserved communities and hearing personal stories of those who face disparities. She hopes to use her skills in project management and fundraising to support people locally and globally.

Selena finds her internship to be highly engaging, particularly through her involvement in fundraising projects. She values the opportunity to attend conferences, where she is able to further her learning and connect with potential donors and partners for the Binaytara. She looks forward to continuing to network and build relationships throughout her internship. In her free time, Selena enjoys hiking, thrift shopping, and exploring new cuisines.

Tatiana Provalova (she/her)

Tatiana joined the Binaytara as a Communication and Development Intern after earning a Marketing Certificate from North Seattle College. She also holds an Associate Degree in Graphic Design from Lake Washington Institute of Technology and a Law Degree from Russia.

Her background in law and design combines analytical thinking with creativity, allowing her to craft thoughtful, effective communication that connects with diverse audiences. At the Binaytara, she contributes to initiatives that expand access to cancer care and strengthen community engagement. Outside of work, Tatiana enjoys traveling, hiking, and drawing, which keep her curious and inspired.

Audrey Kerby (they/them)

Audrey graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health-Global Health. They currently work full-time with Binaytara as an Education Programs and Logistics Assistant. Audrey engaged in a range of work during the internship, stating, “Not only does the internship focus on education about health disparities, but there is also a focus on aspects of fund development, marketing, and event coordination. I like how I got the opportunity to work among different teams in the organization and learn a broad range of skills as a result.” In their leisure time, Audrey enjoys doing New York Times crossword puzzles and embroidery.

Haley Fredricks (She/her)

Haley graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and Society from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She currently works full time at Binaytara as a Foundation Relations Specialist, helping to build new relationships with funders and partners in support of the organization’s mission. Her internship experience helped her become more adaptable and confident as a professional. Reflecting on it, she shared: “This internship made me more proactive in seeking new experiences and opportunities. What left the most profound impact on me was the generosity and warmth I experienced from the Nepali people. Their commitment to hospitality and community was deeply inspiring and continues to influence how I approach work and life.” Haley values being part of a team dedicated to meaningful, equity-focused change.

Dhidan Alshammari (he/him)

Dhidan is from Kuwait and served as an Accounting & Operations Intern. Dhidan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from San Diego State University and a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Miami.

This internship is allowing him to gain valuable experience by applying his academic skills in a real-world setting, directly supporting his long-term career goals in accounting and finance. He appreciated the collaborative and adaptive nature of the role, working on key projects such as tracking conference expenses, processing donations, and recording journal entries.

A particularly exciting aspect for him was how the internship extends beyond traditional accounting tasks, offering opportunities to volunteer at events and deepen his understanding of global health disparities. This aligned with his personal values of contributing to meaningful causes while achieving professional growth. Overall, the experience was helping him bridge the gap between his academic background and professional practice, all while building a stronger sense of purpose. In his free time, Dhidan enjoys hiking and horseback riding.

Matt Lambert (he/him)

I have learned a lot from our smart and passionate interns and am excited to welcome more inspiring individuals to the team. My goal is to provide interns with meaningful, hands-on experiences that deepen their understanding of global health disparities while strengthening and championing their professional development. I am passionate about mentoring emerging leaders and creating an environment where they feel empowered to explore their interests, apply their talents, and grow through real-world projects. Interns will collaborate with supportive mentors in various departments of our organization and participate in cross-cultural learning. By guiding interns to engage directly with issues of health equity, I hope to not only broaden their perspectives but also inspire a lifelong commitment to making healthcare more accessible and just for all communities.
