Position Summary


  • Position Type: Full-time

  • Salary: $130,000 to $150,000

The controller will report to the President & CEO, will serve on the Leadership Team and will oversee our financial operations and ensure compliance with accounting standards.


The Controller will oversee and manage the accounting operations of Binaytara, ensuring the integrity of financial data, the efficiency of accounting systems, and compliance with applicable regulations. This position is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, preparation of financial reports, budgeting, audits, and supporting the President in strategic financial planning. The Controller plays a critical role in helping Binaytara achieve financial sustainability and operational excellence.

This role requires an ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently and proactively, manage multiple competing priorities, collaborate effectively as part of a team, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.


Key Responsibilities


Financial Management and Reporting

  • Develop & maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other accounting standards.
  • Maintain and oversee the organization’s day to day accounting operations including payroll, AP/AR, and general ledger
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and board review.
  • Develop and manage the organizational budget in collaboration with department heads and the Executive Director.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

Internal Controls and Compliance


  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of organizational assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and lead the annual audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit GAAP accounting standards.

Grant and Program Accounting


  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds; ensure accurate allocation of expenses to grants and projects.
  • Collaborate with the grants team to prepare budgets and financial reports for funders.
  • Monitor grant spending to ensure alignment with budgeted activities.

Team Collaboration and Leadership


  • Supervise accounting staff and interns as assigned.
  • Partner with department leads to provide financial insights that inform operational decisions.
  • Assist with financial training and support for non-financial team members to ensure budget adherence.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting, with at least two years in supervisory role.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks preferred), Excel, and other financial tools.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills the ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
