Classification: Full-Time, Exempt
Salary: $80,000 to $90,000

Binaytara is a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on reducing cancer health disparities through innovation, education, and advocacy. Our programs include oncology continuing education for healthcare professionals, global and domestic cancer care initiatives, patient empowerment efforts, and research focused on implementation science.


Position Summary

The senior accountant will report to the Director of Finance & Operations, will support our financial operations, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.

The senior accountant will oversee and manage the accounting operations of Binaytara, ensuring the integrity of financial data, the efficiency of accounting systems, and compliance with applicable regulations. This position is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, preparation of financial reports, assisting with budgeting, audits, and supporting the organization in strategic financial planning.

This role requires an ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently and proactively, manage multiple competing priorities, collaborate effectively as part of a team, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Assist the Director of Finance in developing & maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other accounting standards.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership and board review.
  • Process invoices, donations, and reimbursements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Track grant disbursements and ensure expenditures align with grant agreements.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts regularly.
  • Develop and manage the organizational budget in collaboration with department heads and the Executive Director.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audit

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining internal financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with nonprofit GAAP accounting standards.
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and lead the annual audit process.
  • Prepare schedules, documentation, and reports required for the annual audit and IRS Form 990.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements related to nonprofit accounting.
  • Maintain documentation to support financial transactions and comply with donor and grantor reporting requirements.

Grant and Program Accounting

  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds; ensure accurate allocation of expenses to grants and projects.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance to prepare grant budgets and financial reports for funders.
  • Monitor grant spending to ensure alignment with budgeted activities.

Team Collaboration and Leadership

  • Supervise accounting staff and interns as assigned.
  • Partner with department leads to provide financial insights that inform operational decisions.
  • Assist with financial training and support for non-financial team members to ensure budget adherence.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, CPA certification or CPA track preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit environment.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills the ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
