BELLEVUE, WA— Binaytara is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Navneet Majhail, Physician-in-Chief of Blood Cancers at Sarah Cannon Research Institute, to Binaytara's Board of Directors. Dr. Majhail brings exceptional expertise in cellular therapy, health policy, and nonprofit leadership to Binaytara at a pivotal moment in the organization's growth.
Dr. Majhail serves as Director of the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at TriStar Centennial, specializing in adult blood and marrow transplantation. His contributions to the field have been widely recognized. His research, funded by the National Cancer Institute and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, addresses transplant outcomes, health services, health policy, and quality of life for transplant survivors.
Dr. Majhail's expertise in cellular therapy aligns directly with Binaytara's commitment to addressing cancer health disparities worldwide. "Cell and gene therapies represent the epitome of cancer health disparities given their high cost and specialized and resource-intensive nature, which restricts their availability to selected centers," Dr. Majhail shared. "There are underserved patients in developed countries like the US, where patients do not have sufficient access to these therapies. Then there are lower-income and lower-middle-income countries where there is no access to these therapies at all. Access to cell and gene therapy has to be an integral part of providing high-quality and equitable cancer care, and I hope to inform Binaytara's work in this domain."
As a steadfast supporter of Binaytara's mission, Dr. Majhail has served as a leader at numerous of our continuing medical education conferences, including co-chairing the annual Summit on Hematologic Cancers in Nashville. His appointment to the Board of Directors reflects his deepening commitment to the organization's vision.
"I have always been very impressed by the work Binaytara has been doing in addressing cancer health disparities globally, and participation on the board will offer me the opportunity to collaborate with a group of colleagues who are very passionate about this topic," Dr. Majhail said. "As Binaytara continues its mission to improve cancer care worldwide, I will have the privilege of informing their work and strategy."
Dr. Binay Shah, co-founder and president of Binaytara, emphasized the significance of this appointment: "Dr. Majhail's leadership strengthens Binaytara's ability to expand cancer care, research, and global initiatives responsibly. His combined experience as a clinician, nonprofit leader, and medical educator supports our long-term vision, including the establishment of the Binaytara Cancer Center in Janakpur, Nepal. He will also play an important role in advancing our fundraising efforts, helping ensure Binaytara remains a strong, sustainable nonprofit capable of pursuing its mission with impact."
For 17 years, Binaytara has been a leader in hematology and oncology continuing medical education, advancing patient care while addressing the disparities that often shape cancer outcomes. Dr. Majhail's appointment represents a significant step forward in Binaytara's expansion from an education-focused organization to a comprehensive force for change in global oncology. His expertise in cellular therapy, health policy, and nonprofit governance will help Binaytara navigate the complexities of expanding access to advanced cancer treatments while maintaining the educational excellence that has defined its work for nearly two decades.
As Binaytara continues to grow its presence in underserved regions and develop sustainable models for cancer care delivery, Dr. Majhail's leadership will be instrumental in ensuring these initiatives reach those who need them most, from patients in rural Nepal to underserved communities across the United States and worldwide.
