Andrew H. Ko, MD

Biography

Dr. Andrew Ko was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, NY. He received his undergraduate degree at Brown University (Providence, RI) in Applied Mathematics and Biology, followed by medical school at Johns Hopkins (Baltimore, MD) and his Internal Medicine residency training at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA). He then moved out to the west coast to complete his oncology training at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA). He is currently a Professor of Medicine and Associate Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and a member of UCSF’s Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. His primary clinical and research interests center on gastrointestinal cancers, with a particular emphasis on developing and evaluating novel therapeutic strategies for pancreatic and gastroesophageal malignancies. Dr. Ko currently serves as chair of both the NCI’s Pancreatic Cancer Task Force and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Pancreatic Cancer guidelines committee, and recently completed 2 consecutive terms as Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Oncology. He has been married for over 20 years to his wife, Christine, a civil engineer. They have two children, Naomi and Elliott.
