Biography

Dr. Ara Dickran Metjian is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. He specializes in benign hematology, with a clinical and research focus on congenital bleeding disorders, acquired hemostasis diseases, thrombotic microangiopathies, and immune-mediated cytopenias. He practices at the Duke Apheresis Center located at 40 Duke Medicine Circle in Durham, NC. Dr. Metjian earned his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine in 2001. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals and fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and Duke University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in hematology and received a 2026 Excellence in Education Award from Duke Health.
