Clara Hwang, MD

Biography

Over the past 15 years, I have served as an academic medical oncologist at Henry Ford Cancer where I currently lead the genitourinary medical oncology program and serve as the disease site team leader for our cancer center. I am a Senior Staff Physician in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Henry Ford Health System and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University School of Medicine. My clinical practice is predominantly caring for advanced prostate cancer patients, including oversight of pharmaceutical, cooperative group, and investigator-initiated studies. My research career from medical school onwards has focused on advancing options for prostate cancer treatment. During my career, I have gained experience in prostate cancer immunotherapy, transgenic mouse models, prostate cancer xenograft and in vitro models. I also have experience directing prostate cancer clinical and translational research and published several reviews and book chapters on novel prostate cancer therapeutics and genitourinary oncology.  During my career in Detroit, I have become more passionate about advancing healthcare equity and am actively involved in community outreach serving the Metro Detroit area.
