Biography
Gary Schwartz, MD, is Director of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. He previously served as Chief of Hematology and Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Deputy Director of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, following earlier leadership of the Melanoma and Sarcoma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Schwartz is internationally recognized for more than 30 years of translational cancer research and early drug development, with particular expertise in gastrointestinal cancers, melanoma, sarcoma, and other rare tumors. His work has advanced precision medicine through innovative clinical trials evaluating targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and novel agents developed with support from the National Cancer Institute, FDA, and Department of Defense. A dedicated educator and mentor, Dr. Schwartz has led major NIH-funded training programs and mentored numerous fellows and junior faculty who have received ASCO awards and independent research funding. His honors include the Ewig Clinical Scholar Award for excellence in mentoring and teaching.
