Biography
Dr. Marc Matrana is the System Director of Precision Medicine for Ochsner Health. He is also the founder of Ochsner’s phase I drug development research program. He serves as a senior medical oncologist at Ochsner’s Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center in New Orleans where he holds an Endowed Professorship. He also serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Cancer Research at the Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer, and as Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland Medical School in Brisbane, Australia. Dr. Matrana is a ninth-generation native of New Orleans, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Human Genetics from Tulane University and received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine. He served as Chief Resident at Ochsner, and Chief Fellow at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and three books and is an expert on kidney cancer. He has presented his research findings at meetings around the world and is the recipient of numerous prestigious national awards. He has raised millions of dollars for cancer research and successfully leads advocacy efforts with the Cancer Advocacy Group of Louisiana state-wide and nationally to create new laws that increase access to precision medicine and novel cancer testing and therapies.
