Rakhi Naik, MD

Biography

Rakhi P. Naik, MD, MHS, is Associate Director of the Division of Hematology, Director of the Hematology Fellowship Track, and Director of the Organ Systems Foundation of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, where she is an Associate Professor of Medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical and Electrical Engineering from Duke University, her medical degree with Honors in Research from Cornell University, and a Master of Health Science from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She completed her internal medicine residency and hematology fellowship at Johns Hopkins and served as Assistant Chief of Service. Dr. Naik specializes in classical hematology, including autoimmune cytopenias, coagulation disorders, hemoglobinopathies, and myeloid disorders. Her research focuses on sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, particularly their associations with venous thromboembolism and chronic kidney disease. Her work was among the first to establish a link between sickle cell trait and renal disease and has helped define thrombotic risk in sickle hemoglobinopathies. A nationally recognized clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Naik served as the inaugural Chair of the American Society of Hematology Hematology-Focused Training Program Consortium. Her honors include election to the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence, the Johns Hopkins Professors’ Award for Excellence in Teaching, the W. Barry Wood Excellence in Teaching Award, the Johns Hopkins Catalyst Award, the ASH Scholar Award, and an NHLBI Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award.
