Biography

Dr. Skye C. Mayo, MD, MPH, is aProfessor of Surgical Oncology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and the Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, Oregon. He is board certified in both Complex General Surgical Oncology and in General Surgery having completed a surgical residency at Johns Hopkins and a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His surgical oncology clinical practice serves patients with cancers of the liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, and pancreas. After completing his surgical training and returning to Oregon, Dr. Mayo founded the Hepatic Arterial Infusion (HAI) at OHSU and currently serves as the Medical Director of Cancer Regional Therapy Programs at the Knight Cancer Institute. His research focuses on early phase clinical trial development for patients with cancers of the liver and bile ducts, including intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and colorectal cancer metastatic to the liver. Dr. Mayo is the principal investigator on two investigator-initiated trials in HAI for patients with cholangiocarcinoma, serves as the site investigator for several consortium and cooperative group hepatopancreatobiliary oncology trials, and is the national SWOG Champion for the EA2222 PUMP trial (NCT 05863195). He is the Co-Chair of the Knight Cancer Institute Clinical Research Review Committee charged with providing peer review of the scientific merit of all cancer related clinical trials conducted at OHSU. Dr. Mayo has an active collaboration with basic and social scientists across the Knight Cancer Institute. His research efforts center on the early detection of recurrent hepatobiliary cancers, developing novel therapeutics for regional delivery, and understanding the quality of life impact for patients on cancer clinical trials. He enjoys traveling with his family, exploring mountains throughout the western United States, and is currently finishing his Fellowship of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
