Biography
Viraj Master is a surgeon-scientist, Professor and the Fray Marshall Chair in Urologic Research at Emory University. He is also the Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs and Quality, and Director of Clinical Research in the Department of Urology at Emory. He has authored over 400 scientific manuscripts, recently focusing on host-tumor interactions, cancer immunology and frailty/sarcopenia. He edited a book on groin dissection for cancer and holds 2 patents. Clinically, he is focused on advanced kidney cancer, particularly tumors involving the vena cava (IVC) having personally performed more than 400 cases. He is also focused on rare cancers, including adrenal, testicular and penile cancer, where he and colleagues first reported radical endoscopic groin dissection for cancer, a practice changing surgical procedure for many cancers involving the groin, including penile cancer. He is a member of the North American Surgical Oversight Committee for the ECOG 8134 InPACT Penile Cancer trial In addition, Dr. Master is a board-certified acupuncturist and is the founding Director of Integrative Oncology and Survivorship of the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
