The International Journal of Cancer Care and Delivery (IJCCD), the independent scientific publication funded by Binaytara, has introduced a new feature: the IJCCD AI Research Assistant (AIRA). This tool allows users to navigate the journal with ease, accessing articles and specific information from over 200 published manuscripts. Think of it as the “ChatGPT for cancer care and delivery research.” Whether you have questions about articles in our journal or want insights across the articles we have published, AIRA is ready to answer questions, summarize research, and guide you to the right publications. This innovative feature is set to transform the way users access publications and conduct research.
IJCCD began publishing in 2021 and has since released 13 issues over its five-year history. This peer-reviewed, open-access, and free journal is dedicated to advancing oncology through cutting-edge research. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and scalability, IJCCD delivers timely, impactful insights that empower clinicians and healthcare leaders to overcome today’s biggest challenges in cancer care.
Cancer care disparities remain a pressing global challenge, demanding innovative and collaborative solutions. In line with IJCCD’s commitment to filling this critical gap, the journal’s evolution is guided by the same principles of innovation and teamwork. Led by Mr. Bipul Luitel, Binaytara’s Chief Technology Officer, and his talented team, this new feature was developed to make IJCCD not only more user-friendly but also more accessible and adaptable in today’s fast-paced world. Reflecting on the development of the AI Assistant, Luitel shared:
“With the recent advancements in generative AI, we are now able to leverage its power to do semantic search and content summarization and perform 'meaning' based searches rather than text-based searches. This opens up a whole new possibility in publication accessibility. The publications that would otherwise be only meaningful to specialists will now be understandable to anyone who can ask the right question to the Assistant, in their own language and level of understanding.”
Medical journals contain a treasure trove of information, but it is often limited to the community of expert health professionals. Due to the industry-specific jargon, these journals are largely inaccessible to the general public and even to the educated masses outside the medical profession. With AIRA, users can now "ask" the articles to be presented in a language they speak, in a tone that resonates, and with insights that they understand. With the launch of AIRA, Binaytara continues its mission of making oncology knowledge accessible, practical, and impactful for all. Expanding on the mission alignment of this update, Binaytara’s president and co-founder, Dr. Binay Shah, shared:
“Whether you are a clinician, researcher, patient, student, or policymaker, you can now instantly access the most relevant cancer care knowledge, research, and practice updates without sifting through endless pages.”
His words highlight Binaytara’s commitment to improving access and minimizing barriers to cancer education.
The Binaytara technology team is excited about the impact that AIRA and other similar projects could have on knowledge dissemination. Building on this innovation, Luitel shared, “I would love to explore other areas, in the medical profession or otherwise, where recent advancements in AI could help make transformative upgrades”.
