8th International Cancer Congress Receives Global Response from Leading Institutions
Binaytara's 8th International Cancer Congress returns to Janakpur, Nepal this October — and this year's call for abstracts drew a record global response: submissions from eight countries, three continents, and 34 institutions, spanning 19 topic categories. Of the 48 accepted abstracts, four were selected for oral presentation. Here's a preview of the research shaping the conversation at ICC 2026.
A Global Response to the ICC Call for Abstracts
In October, Binaytara’s International Cancer Congress (ICC) will return for the eighth time in Janakpur, Nepal. This year, ICC saw a record-breaking global response to its call for abstracts, with submissions originating from eight countries and three continents. Thirty-four international institutions were represented in the submitted abstracts, including a sizable showout from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. Submissions spanned 19 topic categories including lymphoma, genomics, gynecologic cancer, and even retinoblastoma. Research on breast cancer dominated, accounting for nearly 20% of submissions, followed by research on head and neck cancer at 11%.
With such a varied and competitive pool of submissions drawing from a global research community, this year’s accepted abstracts represent some of the most exciting updates in cancer care. ICC accepted 48 abstracts; 44 for poster presentation and 4 for oral presentation. While ICC attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the abstract authors’ work more in-depth, all abstracts will be made available in the International Journal of Cancer Care and Delivery—the independent, peer-reviewed medical journal supported by Binaytara.

Abstracts Selected for Oral Presentation
Only 4 abstracts were selected for oral presentation at this year’s ICC. The topics are diverse: breast cancer, precision medicine in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, head and neck cancers, and retinoblastoma. Authors of the following abstracts will have the opportunity to present their work to an international faculty and audience during the conference.
Barriers and Facilitators Across the Breast Cancer Care Continuum: A Mixed-Methods Study in North India

A staggering fourteen authors, all from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), contributed to this survey based-study. An initial 40-cohort, “in-depth” interview informed the creation of a structured questionnaire. That survey allowed the authors to analyze data from 100 North Indian breast cancer patients.
They studied what factors eased the diagnostic and treatment process and what factors hindered it, ultimately concluding that whether or not a patient pursues “timely breast cancer care” is influenced by “interconnected patient, family, and health-system factors.” That means earlier diagnosis in this population may hinge on addressing lack of symptom/disease awareness, strengthening family support, and streamlining diagnostic pathways.

Mutational Profile and Genetic Classification of Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma in an Indian Patient Cohort

The second abstract selected for oral presentation is an eight-way collaboration from researchers at India’s Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. The genetic study was based on a cohort of 50 consecutive patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)—the most common subtype of adult lymphoma, according to the abstract. The disease’s three commonly-cited subtypes, the authors argue, aren’t actually helpful in the clinical context as far as precision medicine is concerned.
The 50 DLBCL patients—all “treatment naive”— were enrolled in the study, then genetically tested and classified according to ClinGen-CGC-VICC guidelines. The resulting breakdown and analysis is an important step toward establishing new genomic classifications in DLBCL; the abstract proves a solid basis for the researchers to engage in further study. “[We] have applied for grants to do tumour whole exome sequencing in future research cohorts,” the authors conclude the abstract.

Clinicopathological Patterns of Head and Neck Cancers in Eastern Nepal: A Six-Year Retrospective Study (BP Koirala)

A cohort of researchers from Nepal’s BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences contributed to this retrospective, descriptive study on region-specific head and neck cancer data from Eastern Nepal. The study analyzed six years of data from a single center, encompassing 951 patients (supporting the authors’ assertion that head and neck cancers “account for a substantial share of the cancer burden in South Asia”). They broke down subtype prevalence, malignancy, age, and sex, among other differentiators. Their findings, the authors write, “may guide early detection, diagnostic planning, and public health interventions such as tobacco control and improved access to diagnostic services.”

Retinoblastoma at a Tertiary Eye Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal: A 10-Year Cohort Study of Presentation, Stage, Treatment and Follow-up

The final abstract accepted for oral presentation comes from a researcher at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology in Nepal. The cohort study analyzed 236 children diagnosed with retinoblastoma, the most common primary childhood intraocular malignancy, at Tilganga Hospital between 2016 and 2025. One striking finding: nearly 45% of patients were “lost to follow-up” — in other words, left during the course of the study. Additional observations included late presentation and advanced disease. These findings, Sthapit writes, highlight a clear need for interventions around retention, early detection, and streamlined referral pathways.
